Do you have a toothache? Are you not sure what to do about it? Don’t worry, you are not alone. A toothache is one of the most common dental problems that people experience. In this blog post, we will discuss the causes of toothaches, how to treat them, and how to prevent them from happening in the first place. We will also provide some tips on how to maintain healthy teeth and gums!

What causes a toothache?

A toothache can be caused by several things, including tooth decay or infection. The most common cause of toothaches is tooth decay which occurs when there’s a buildup of plaque on the teeth and gums that becomes hardened over time due to bacteria in food particles trapped between them. This causes pain because it creates pressure on nerves within tooth enamel causing inflammation as well as swelling around the affected area making it difficult for one to chew or bite down hard enough without experiencing discomfort! You may even notice some sensitivity when biting into something cold like ice cream. If left untreated this could lead to more serious issues like abscesses where pus forms inside your mouth near roots causing severe pain during eating/drinking activities; however, if treated promptly then chances are tooth decay can be reversed!

Toothache treatment options

There are a few ways that you can treat toothaches, depending on the severity. If it is just a mild toothache, then rinsing your mouth with warm salt water may help to alleviate some of the pain. You can also try taking medication to help reduce inflammation and swelling. If the toothache is more severe, then you may need to seek dental treatment from a professional. They will likely prescribe antibiotics if there is an infection present and/or perform a root canal if the tooth decay has progressed too far. In some cases, they may recommend having the tooth extracted if it’s causing extreme discomfort or poses a threat to your overall health.

How to prevent having a toothache?

The best way to prevent toothaches is by brushing your teeth twice a day with toothpaste that contains fluoride. Flossing at least once per week will also help remove food particles from between the teeth and gums, which prevents tooth decay from happening in the first place! Brushing after each meal, if possible, may be beneficial as well since it removes bacteria that’s accumulated on surfaces of tooth enamel during the digestion process (e.g., tongue scraping).

You should also visit your dentist for a check-up at least once every six months to ensure that there are no underlying problems that need to be addressed. Following these simple tips will help keep your teeth and gums healthy, and reduce the chances of experiencing a toothache in the future!

I'm not a great dental patient but I got the poor teeth in my family so I spend quite a bit of time in the dentist chair. I have gone to Nicole for over 10 years now and we have built a strong relationship where she knows me, what makes me nervous, and how to help me stay calm. This has built a really strong foundation of trust in Nicole and her team for my whole family.

Dr Yuen is a lifesaver. I had been getting migraines and to think it came from my tooth. She provided emergency treatment and scheduled me back to ensure that it did not happen again. She and her team provide holistic care for myself and my family. My toddler was booked in and they were amazing! He was not scared at all and had so much fun in the dentist chair! Thank you Yeronga Park!

Dr Nicole is amazing. She is very gentle and spends the time to explain things throughly so I can understand everything that is going on during my appointment. She is calm and makes me feel at ease for being at the dentist. The practice staff are so lovely which makes such a difference to have such friendly receptionists and dental assistants. Overall a really great experience :-)
